OK Divas, I realized today that I've got it reeeeally bad. I may just even be a 'nutter' Confused My SO's (sig. other) parents live on a river. It's very quiet and secluded. At the end of the road there are a couple of vacation homes that are used primarily in the summer. One of those homes is owned by a famous author. I have personally never met this person but I have waved as I've gone canoeing by or swam on the opposite shore. My SO'S parents went there for New Year's Eve a couple of years ago but it's very rare this person is there during the winter. The first or second summer they lived there the in-laws discovered that a prominent member of government was visiting the author. Last year it suddenly dawned on me that that particular gov't person is a personal friend of AR's and Rima's. They visited a few years back (I didn't know until after it happened but there were pictures in the paper). And...one of the author's film's was directed by a friend of AR's. So, anyhooo, tomorrow I'm heading up there to visit the in-laws and all I could think of was how I was going to take my first annual walk of the season to the end of the road while pretending that I'm not looky-looing at the author's cottage...and I'm looky-looing because the author could quite possibly be around (highly doubtful)...and he could even maybe possibly know or at least have met AR and Rima (hopeful)...and in fantasy land where I dwell most of the time that constitutes some kind of connection right? No? Well, ok, so it doesn't but my point is that I'm such a Rickman Diva I actually took the time to connect all these dots in my head. Shocked Maybe time off isn't such a good idea for me after all? Rolling Eyes

Your mind has a good way of working!!
I personally believe too that I will one day meet Alan. I don't know how, where or why, but, I think one day I will. It is quite inexplicable to me why I have suddenly become infatuated with this man who, until last year, I didn't look at twice.
Andrew and I have been together 20 years, and he is even more perplexed than I.
I believe in fate, destiny, call it what you like.
I'm not a dreamer...I don't think he'll fall madly in love with me and whisk me away ( I should be so lucky!!), but I do think I will meet him at some point.
So, Semp, you are not alone. I've got it bad too.................just the same as all us Divas, I'm sure.

It's a dream, and you have to have dreams in life....it gives you something to aim for and fight for!!

Imagine if it came true though!!! *faints in a heap on the floor*

Personally, I love my meetings with Alan in my dreams...but I don't think I would actually want to meet him in real life unless I was working with him on a movie or something. lol (that would be grand!) Because, as a fan, when you anticipate something you plan out in your head what you want to happen, and it never turns out as planned, and sometimes becomes disappointing.
For example, I absolutely adored Tim Curry as well. I loved him so much that for my 16th birthday, i skipped out on a Sweet sixteen to fly to New York and see him on Broadway in "Spamalot". Well, I was so excited to meet him, and when I waited for him at the stage door, he totally passed me up. He went to everyone around me to sign their autographs, and when he looked at me he just skipped over to the next person..like I wasn't even worth his time of day despite paying 300 dollars for two seats to his show..NOT TO MENTION AIRFARE! I did eventually get his autograph because I sneaked to the other side of the line and pushed my playbill past everyone else to get it. After I got it though, i didn't even want it anymore. Sad He MAY NOT have meant to hurt my feelings, he MAY have been extremely exhausted after his show and just wanted to go home..but he took it out on ME, not the people around me...so needless to say, my opinion of him will never be the same. I will always love his work, but I'll remember him as a jerk for the rest of my life.
I would just die inside if that ever happened with Alan. I couldn't bear it..so I'm hoping to admire him from afar for the rest of my days. Smile

My mum said to me as a teenager, never hope to meet the person you fantasise about, cos they never live up to your expectation. If you put a person on a high enough pedestal they always fall off! The person she was refering to was Steve Priest, (the sexy redhead in my avatar)who I had a very bad crush on. I have since 'met' him 'online' (unfortunately not in person yet) and he is Funny, Intellegent, Witty and kind hearted. He lives up to everything I had imagined in him. So, maybe, hopefully, Alan will be the same wonderful person we all imagine him to be.

Stories like that can only give us hope Lorraine!!

And, I'm so sorry for you, Mrs Turpin. You must have been absolutely crushed. That's such an awful thing to have happened.I, too, love Tim Curry, especially in Rocky Horror. But, like a lot of actors, I suppose they are not aware of how easily they can shatter peoples dreams, simply by missing out one autograph.

Just my luck I'd get to meet Alan by running into him when I'm on one of my vacations in London where I'm all drunked up and he'd think I'm some homeless drunk asking him for change LOL. I've seen pictures of me while drunk on a vacation in England. I thought I looked like a goddess...the pics proved otherwise. That drunk face, smudged makeup...oh god I looked like some woman coming out of a soup kitchen Laughing

I got to meet Alice Cooper a couple of years ago. He did a gig out here and just walked around the streets talking with people and shopping with his wife. He was a very nice man. He seemed like everyone's dad. haha.

I also got to talk with Jello Biafra (from the Dead Kennedy's) when he did a spoken word show out here. He was a very interesting person to talk to as well.

So far all these encounters lived up to my expectations. Great down to earth people. I"m sure Alan would be a cool guy as well. Well, as long as I've not got a few drinks in me and I run up to him saying something stupid like "Hey Mr. Rickman (hic) take off all yer clothes off!"
Oh god! I'm not drinking there on my next vacation just in case Laughing

It is a pickle really. I'm not obsessed as my boyf. claims me to be but part of me would like to meet him, but there is certainly a risk that he wouldn't be as I imagine him. I love his characters, but it is really difficult to know what he would be like in real life, of course, there may not be enough time to get any picture of his character.

I met Michael Palin (monty python) at a book signing, and it was a very brief meeting, but he asked me how I was and just seemed really lovely. It is difficult to know what Alan would be like and as nervous as I was meeting Michael Palin, I would be ten times worse with Alan, so for now, I'm happy just meeting him in my dreams. Very Happy

NO ONE is ever going to live up to the idols that we make them out to be in our minds. We all have this almost perfect image of Alan in our heads (and to each of us he's probably a little bit of a different image, a different ideal man, although still based on that same lovely man). There's no way any human male could ever live up to that standard that we have set.
Any famous person signing autographs in a crowd may pass over someone and hurt someone's feelings, there are so many people there, they can't get to everyone, but of course, not meaning to do that. And, they can't spend a lot of time talking to each fan, there are too many.
And, contrary to what each of us wants, Alan isn't going to come along, and sweep us off our feet and take us off to Paris, or the beach, or a mountain hideaway, etc. and live happily ever after. (sh*t!) For one thing, he's taken, for another, so are most of us! and we may not like his personality once we meet him, he may be very particular (I've read that), he may burp and fart and pick his nose like every other man in the world (I hope not)
But, I think it's worth meeting him, knowing that he's not perfect, just a gorgeous male, with a beautiful voice, who happens to be a fantastic actor, who probably will just sign my whatever (he-he) and go on to the next person without even looking at me twice Sad , but that's OK, I'll still be able to say, "I met Alan Rickman!" and bore everyone with the story for years!

I would very much like to meet Alan in person one day, but I am pretty sure that will never happen. But if I ever do, I hope it will be on a nice event of some kind, like if we very attending the same dinner or party. Mostly so I culd be dressed up and look nice... It would be nice not to be just another fan in a crowd. But lets face it, that is not too likely to happen.
And maybe it's better that way, so he can always be perfect in my head... although I'm sure he is a great person.
And no, he probably won't come along to sweep me off my feet... I'm glad he has found the love of his life, and I just hope that some day I will too...and maybe that someone can look just a little bit like Alan... or sound like him... Wink

Many years ago I got to meet one of my favourite actresses, a swedish actress who has unfortunatley passed away now, way too young.
At the time I was working at a theatre in Stockholm. No, I wasn't on stage, I sold programs and candy, and she was in the play that was running. After the last show there was a party, and she and I ended up talking. She was so nice, asked a lot about my life and was really interested when I told her about me wanting to be an actress, and it was so much fun! One of the best parties I've been to ever!

And we come back down to earth with a bump!!! Laughing Laughing

I'm as sure as can be that Alan farts and picks his nose and has smelly socks, but so does my husband and I still love him!!
I think it's Alan's humanity that makes us feel about him the way we do....he doesn't seem to put himself above others, he's down to earth, he seems almost "normal" compared to a lot of other celebrities.

Even so....there is a part of me that would love to meet him, and maybe make him smile or laugh, and to say thankyou for what he's done....that's all!

Proof that at Least ONE OF THOSE is true ahhahaha : http://youtube.com/watch?v=Q47_tDyZYk0

THe worst part of the tim curry experience wasn't that he passed me up..it was that he looked RIGHT AT ME..into my eyes even, and THEN passed me..lol If he hadn't looked at me i wouldn't have been so hurt. lol Celebs are busy people, and can't tend to everyone...but when you're the one they snub..it's disappointing. lol Smile

Well....at least he wasn't completly digging for gold!! Laughing
And I hate it that Tim Curry ignored you...that had to be so disapointing, I'm sure he had no way of knowing how much so.
