Being a londoner born and bred I speak rhyming slang! for example
I'm going for a ball darn the frog!

ball is short for ball of chalk = chalk rhymes with walk
darn is how down is pronounced in london
frog is short for frog and toad = toad rhymes with road

so it means I am going for a walk down the road!! Did I make that clear Laughing

If you have any questions about British sland dont hesitate to ask

Lorraine,
You must have had to gown up with that to know it, it's like a mystery!!
There's no logical reasoning behind it!!
I know like a phrase or two (that I picked up from the Austin Powers movie that had Michael Caine in it!)

apples and pears=up the stairs!!
It seems like a language made up to keep other people on the outside!
(and this is called Cockney rhyming slang, right? But Cockneys are now called East Enders?)
I love that accent, although I admit that it's sometimes hard to follow if you talk too fast!!
(but then again, if my cousins in Arkansas talk too fast, I can't understand them, either! Laughing )

You are quite right, Cockney Rhyming Slang was invented by London market traders, to prevent thier bosses from understanding what they were saying!!
and yes Apples and Pears (shortened to apples) = Stairs
A Cockney is a person born within the sound of the bells of Bow Church, which is in the East End of London.

I don't always understand Londoners if they speak too fast either, and I'm English!!!! My accent is similar to Hagrids for all you non-Brits!
Quite broad vowels, and quite slow....but I'm not!!!

Do we have any Alan Partridge/Steve Coogan fans in the ranks? He is my latest love on the small screen. I think he's absolutely hilarious! I also realised that I have a terrible crush on Steve Coogan when he isn't dressed as Alan Partridge. But yeah, if anyone has an opinion on him and his work then tell us about it!

I've seen in him a few movies now, and I think he's very funny, and could be not bad looking. I really haven't watched any actual episodes of Alan Partridge, just clips here and there. (It's sorta like me and Journalista with Rowan Atkinson, he's hot, but NOT as Mr. Bean!) Wink

Sorry guys, not getting these crushes at all..with Steve Coogan, I can't see him as anyone either than Paul Calf or Alan Partridge...he can be quite funny, but he doesn't stir anything in me!! ( I went off him even more when he was linked with Courtney Love!!)

As for Rowan Atkinson..he was in a show in the 90s called "The Thin Blue Line" and he was squirmworthy!! Quite a wimp!

But...each to his own...a lot of people I know don't get how I could fancy Alan Rickman (DUH!)....so we all have to be different I suppose!!

but, Rowan Atkinson as Blackadder....nice
or just as himself, in a tux (not Johnny English, tho!) he really has a very beautiful accent, and he's very softspoken, almost shy.
yea, one of my friends, my age!! was grossed out by the In Demand video, didn't like the "old guy" with the young girl!! (who had to be 30 at least!) oh well! more Alan for us!

I really like Rowan Atkinson as Black Adder too, but he is outshined by Hugh Laurie, who I just adore! So cute!

hmmm...there's food for thought...I suppose he had a certain "charm" about him in Blackadder...he's definitely more attractive when he plays confident characters....still not a patch on alan though!!

Yea, he's my new crush! (not as much as Alan, of course!) but I admit, I've got it pretty bad for Hugh!

Yeah that was a particularly bad move on his part. She is just... yuck. But hopefully he is sorting his life out now. I have been told by many people that I have horrendous taste in men - they don't understand why I can't just stick to the usual pretty boys like Orlando Bloom. I guess the way I see it is I have more of a chance of bumping into Steve Coogan so my daydreams are far more satisfying (don't tell the BF)... especially since I just booked tickets for a friend (who also loves him) and I to go to his autumn tour. Woot!

Wow!! Fantastic! I bet he's great live actually.....just don't fancy him...I too have always been told that I have a strange taste in men....pretty boys just don't do it for me....I like them with interesting faces, and I love a man with a big nose!!!! ( Alan is perfection to me!!)
I think I'd bore of a pretty face too quickly!! And you're right...it might be a case of.."I've got more chance with them!!"(don't tell the hub) Laughing Laughing

I'm with you there. Actually, when I think about it I think there's a distinguishable trend in my list of men too. Although for me it's the eyes. Deep eyes.
But yes, I think Steve will rock live - I believe it's his first tour in a decade, so it should be pretty special. He's bringing back Alan Partridge: "Back of the net!"
... Plus we are totally gonna linger around afterwards in a vain attempt at meeting him hehe!

Anyone here a CSI: Las Vegas fan??? Well, I won't spoil it for you, but tonight's episode... Shocked Shocked Shocked

I am not sure that I'll watch the show again. I don't want to post much in case any other fans have not seen it, but I have to say I was SHOCKED... and saddened... Crying or Very sad
