Hot Fuzz was indeed amazing, and I quite enjoyed Night at the Museum as well. (Steve Coogan was in both films, so I had to like them!). I loved The Queen! Of course, I don't tend to watch films that "entertain" me, so that may be why I enjoyed it more than you did.
I just finished watching Shortbus, it's by the same guy who did Hedwig and the Angry Inch. For once, I don't disagree with the rating, this was definitely an NC-17 film.
It's kind of hard to explain it, here's what the synopsis says:
| Quote: | | Director John Cameron Mitchell delivers an unbridled look at the New York City underground, focusing on a group of hipsters who frequent a downtown club renowned for its lascivious ways. Through graphic polymorphous sexual couplings - and using an ensemble cast composed largely of first-time actors - the film chronicles each character's erotic journey of self-discovery in a raw and riveting fashion. |
I really, really liked this film. Way more than I thought I would. I'm always searching for films that push the envelope in any way possible and I think I found the film. There's no way a movie could do anything this film didn't without just being porn. It was refreshing, though I don't imagine much of the country would agree with me on that. I just wish more Americans could accept the cinematic portrayal of sexuality in such a blatant and realistic way. |

I just saw The History Boys. I really wish I'd gotten a chance to see it on the stage, but I'll take the film.
I have to say I am in love with Irwin. Honestly, I'm glad I never had a teacher like him in high school as I might have gotten in a bit of trouble. He actually reminds me of a PoliSci professor I had with whom, had he not been married, I would have gladly gotten in a lot of trouble.
Seriously though, I thought it was a brilliant film. Great characters, great themes and fantastic dialogue. |

Movie lovers, count me in!
Today I've seen La Ratatouille, and it's just perfect. Second best Disney movie for me, first being, of course, The Lion King! A really worth seeing movie! _________________ -- Rima

| I've seen so many movies over the last couple of weeks I don't think I can adequately review them all. I saw two French films, one called Romance and the other was Anatomy of Hell. They were...not for the faint of heart. I also saw Judgment, which made me feel very dirty indeed because even though David Strathairn was playing a creepy child molesting priest, I still thought he was attractive. And a couple of days ago I went and saw The Bourne Ultimatum (specifically for David Strathairn). Great flick, I'll probably go see it again at some point. |

I went to see the Simpson movie last week. I really liked it, but I think it´s better as a tv-show. Laughed a lot though, just loved the "spider-pig"! |

yeah, Spider-pig (aka Harry Plopper) was hilarious! but I agree, it's a good movie, but I prefer the TV show...
My last movies were The Bourne ultimatum and Blood diamond. I liked them both a lot. _________________

Has anyone here seen Becoming Jane? I'm doing this month's review on it and I'm just looking for different opinions of it. I like to see what other people think about a film, and see how it compares to my own impression. Any input? Thanks! _________________ I want to swim in both directions at once. I haven't gotten a chance to see it yet, but I desperately want to! It was just about to come out in the States when I left and now that I'm in the UK it's not in theaters anymore! |

It's been surprisingly difficult to see Becoming Jane in my area. My guess is that there is a somewhat limited theatrical release of it, and I have to admit that my area is a bit of a cultural wasteland. New York is not as progressive as it was even 20 years ago, which would lead me into a political discussion... so I won't go there.
The theatres that are playing the movie are playing it for such a short time that anyone who wants to see it can't wait around. So it's been a difficult task finding many people who have seen it.
Movies like Snow Cake never appear in theatres around here. Anything independent is completely overlooked, even in the two cities that I live near. What a shame... _________________ I want to swim in both directions at once. Desire success, court failure. ~ Alan Rickman |

Awww!! Rowan Atkinson! He's just the cutest! My brother and I always watched Mr. Bean on HBO when we were younger. I loved the episode when he ordered the steak tartare and then subsequently tried to get rid of it! Hilarious! _________________ I want to swim in both directions at once. Yes, love Mr. Bean, Blackadder, The Thin Blue Line (which we saw rarely around here). I loved Rowan Atkinson's part with Alan in Love Actually. if Alan had been playing any of his more "evil" characters (like maybe the Sherriff of Nottigham) he probably would have just killed him, he looked so frustrated at how slow he was, fussing around with the wrapping!! it was great!!
I grew up watching British comedies on PBS with my dad (didn't understand all of it!), and I still love them. Benny Hill is one of the funniest men who ever lived. And Monty Python, wow! got my son hooked on it! He has the video of Monty Pyton's Spam cafe on his myspace page! (the high school had a drama last year that started out with 2 cleaning ladies, one of them was a boy, in drag, when he read for the part, he did it with an English accent in a really high voice! the drama teacher didn't get it, but he said trust me... half the audience fell apart when he came out, looking like John Cleese in drag!! my son saved it for a surpise for me! LOVED IT!!)
guess I've loved guys with English accents since I was a little girl! (I prefer they look like Alan, instead of in drag, tho!!)

I adore LA. It's one of my top 5 Alan movies and that part is probably the funniest part in the movie. Even without Alan playing a bad guy, Alan really did look like he wanted to throttle him LOL "What are you going to do next? Dip it is yogurt? Cover it in chocolate buttons?!"
