I think it looks great, Jackie. Perhaps the left eye could be lightened a bit. I'm not a critic, though, and am always impressed with what you do!

Honest?

On the left side of the sketch the part of the beard ist not distinct enough for a beard. It looks a bit like a unproportionned chin. And the eyes do not look at the same spot. That is all and can be made better. I think more contrast would help. The darkness of the left eye fits with the shadows.. But the lower part of the left side is less shadowed than the upper part. Be more daring, not less.

You know...
Ever Tried? Ever Failed?
Try Again! Fail Again!
Fail Better!

This is hard work, so
Don't give up
Try again and again until you are happy and win House Points.

BTW I am impressed by your ability to get his eyes looking at all. I think Eyes, hands and feet are the most difficult things you could attempt to sketch or paint and "your" eyes never are blind.

I think the beard is now obviously a beard and the eyes look at me. I like that. Do you think so too?

I do yes!
Sometimes you draw something and you know it's not right, but because you're close to it, you can't always see it....you know it's wrong, but you almost become blind to it! That's why I needed another pair of eyes to look at it and say "it's that, that and that!!"....so thankyou!
It was simply remedied!!

I am glad you look at it like that.

So keep up the good work and one day we will all use your sketches as avatars.

Wow, those tiny changes have made the world of difference to the picture. I can feel the intensity of his stare now, it is so close to the real deal. Congratulations Jacksl! You all make me want to sketch.

well, take a pencil or a pen and a piece of paper and get started. Dot be discouraged with your results. Practice practice train... Jacksls successes are a small proportion of talent and a mountain of hard work.

And it can make your feel good, you made something beautiful.

So good luck.

I agree with Magenta on this one, Velouria!!
Just take a pencil and draw what you feel like...it won't go right straight away....mine never do, well, not often anyway.

Just enjoy the experience...it's very liberating!!
And then post it so we can see (if you want to)!!!

Hi JSL! I have found out that you are a specialist for eyes. I did not know that there is a website for showing art. It is like your personal show-room. What is your favourite material?
Some of your things are photo-realistic. But I prefer the games with colour. Like the Rainbow Liberty or the eye eye close up. Very expressive paintings.
Good night, or is it already morning?

I'm taking part in a "Rickman challenge", with my Deviant art buddy, Cyntilla. We are each to create a picture from each of Alan's films, starting from Die Hard and moving forward in time.

Hans Gruber was the first, obviously...this is the second....Serious Ed.

I'm not sure if I'll post them all here...if I rush, they might not be so good....time will tell. I always appreciate good criticism though!

If I can improve through it, it can only be a good thing!!!
