No surprises, Eastern Europe as strong as always. Our singers, the No Angels, used to be very good when they first started their career in 2000 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qdxu1AcZpEM). They separated in 2003 and made a comeback last year (4 of the original 5 members), but in my humble opinion, they're not that good any more. We have better performers now. It's probably the same as in the UK, with no chances of winning, no one is taking the trouble to find good contestants. The only reason Germany got 12 points from Bulgaria this year is that No Angels singer Lucy is Bulgarian. Other than that, it would only have been 2 points from Switzerland, which is pathetic
On the bright side, there were lots of funny entries, I loved Azerbaijan's angels and devils show, and Latvia's pirates were great fun too.
There was an aftershow party at Hamburg, hosted by Thomas Herrmans (the gay angel who announced the results of the German vote). They had interviews, an analysis of the show, highlights and guest stars, including the new German "Pop Idol" Thomas Godoj (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaFCEJyU3r4). Why can't we send someone like him? _________________

Yeah, there weren't any surprises with the voting...it's all quite political. The winning song was in my top 5, so not all bad.
The UK don't seem to put forward any decent acts any more, because appearing on and writing for the Eurovision has proven to be the kiss of death for many artists in recent years.
There isn't anyone with any credibility wants to do it any more. The feeling in this country (I believe) is, it doesn't matter how good the song is we put forward...no one votes for us any more, so no writer or performer seems to want to do it while they've still got a decent career....sad but true!
Having said that, I still enjoy watching it. I enjoyed the angels and devil song too, and I loved all the quick change acts this year!....I counted at least five......is that the new thing? I loved it anyway!
I thought Finland should have done better....love an act full of testosterone!!! _________________ Alan Rickman...*sigh*... enough said.

On he subject of ESC and women that are too thin, as discussed in the movie-thread, the swedish singer- Charlotte Perelli- has lost so much weight before the finals! It has been constantly brought up in the papers this spring, and to me she doesn't look healthy anymore, just like a plastic barbie-doll. Maybe thats why she got so few votes...
Hope she comes home to sweden, and starts to eat again! |

She was a topic of conversation in our house actually...she didn't look well at all....and we don't know what she looked like before she was thin!
There's a phrase used in our magazines when a woman gets too thin, and Charlotte is a good example of it....A lollipop head....it's cruel but when a woman gets too small, her head just looks too big for her body...like a lollipop on a stick...Victoria Beckham is another example.....it's just so wrong. Do they not know the long term side effects of dieting to extremes in this way??
I wish these women would see sense and just eat properly! _________________ Alan Rickman...*sigh*... enough said.

Charlotte has always been thin, but healthy looking. Now she has been in lots of magazines, giving her best diet and work out-tips. As if her look now is something to strive for, and that she wasn't pretty before... And she has two small children, so I just hope that she takes care of herself better, when this whole contest is over.
That whole lollipop-head ideal is just so terrible! |

I'll post this here, since about a musician/singer. I don't know if I've mentioned how much I like Neil Diamond or not, I've had a crush on him off/on since I was 13. (I used to read romance novels, and replace the main characters names with "Neil" and "Nora"--how lame is that?)
But, most people snicker nowadays if you say you like Neil Diamond, which is sad, he's just as talented as ever.
Well, he's coming to St. Louis again, in August (I missed him last time, Riverdance was here, and the fam wanted to go to that-for years-so I couldn't do both ) I told my hubby he was coming, and I thought I would ask one of my friends (who's only 35, but is a Neil fan, too), but hubby said, I'll take you to see him (he probably wants to keep an eye on me so I don't rip his clothes off or something!)
So, we have tickets!!!! I didn't tell him how much they were...I'll consider it my birthday present, since my birthday is only about a week earlier.
Wow, Neil!! (almost as good as Alan, not quite....but still pretty cool) _________________ ~~~Nora~~~

Have fun, Nora. I'm sure you'll have a blast!!!
He's not exactly my cup of tea, but he's a good looking man! _________________ Alan Rickman...*sigh*... enough said.

I love Neil Diamond!! When I was in college my friend Mike and I used to drive around blasting "America" and singing "Sweet Caroline" at the top of our lungs... Neil was before our time, somewhat, so I'm sure people thought we were a bit odd!! LOL!!
Lucky Nora! Have a great time (even if you do have to go with your hubby!! ) _________________ I want to swim in both directions at once. Desire success, court failure. ~ Alan Rickman |

When Matt's band went to New Orlean's for the Sugar Bowl, the bus driver had a thing for "Sweet Caroline" and played it all the way to N.O. and back, so all the band kids learned it. It became their theme song, and at the band banquet, they even played it and put it on the special memory DVD!
Good taste!
And yes, I think Neil is looking good, he's 67 now, and the pix on his myspace look dang good! _________________ ~~~Nora~~~
