I have seen some Alan-films before, but I fall for him when I saw this picture ----> http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l143/TanteRobinson/Schauspieler/Alan%20Rickman/Snape_1024x760.jpg

It was just a poster in the room of one of my friends... but since that moment I couldn’t get him out of my mind (and of course I knew that Snape was one of the good guys). Very Happy

I've thought and thought about this question and in a way my answer kind of comes full circle. Let me explain. When I saw Die Hard I hated Hans but I couldn't get him out of my mind. Then, when I saw Robin Hood, I hated the Sheriff and yet, I couldn't get him out of my mind. Kind of like the 'bad boy' at school. You don't want to like him, you don't want your friends to know you like him, but goodness help you, you just really want him! I tried to dislike Colonel Brandon (too old). I was almost justified by Harry's actions but when Snape showed up, well, I just gave in. I announced to all of my friends 'Yes, that's right, I love AR". Well, duh, so did alot of them.

I can absolutely understand the way you feel! I've watched those movies without knowing the name of this evil guy. I absolutely fell for Alan because of the Potter-movies. Sad but true. I loved the character of Snape from the books and was scared that they would pick an actor who just doesn't fit the picture in my head. What can I say? Alan is perfect in that role (okaaaaay, maybe Rowling didn't think of Snape as lickable, but who cares?). After that I slowly discovered all the movies he's done before and my obsession grew more and more intense. I guess what really pulled me in was his voice. It has to be his voice. He's too old for a young woman like me, so it can't be his attractive smile. Wink

I understand the importance of choosing the right actor for a character you like from a book. When I read Snape I thought, this guy can't be all bad, he is going to be a classical Greek hero. Since Alan is playing Snape I love Snape. (And I have been addicted to Alan since HP V.)

When I read the Prisoner from Askaban I really loved Lupin. I thought he would turn out to be the father figure to keep Harry sane.

An now I am in trouble because I like David Thewlis' work, well most of it. But I do not love his Lupin. I think the canon-Lupin is charismatic and thewlis' Lupin is only charismatic in the dialogue on the bridge. I have come to terms with Thewlis playing Lupin, but it is not perfect for me. But as I do not have a better suggestion for whom to play Lupin, I will stop complaining about it now.

Hi Magenta,
I share your feelings about Thewlis as Lupin. Lupin is (next to Snape) my favourite HP-character. I picture him as a gentle and shy person who is very selfconcious because of the way society shuns his werewolf-condition. Thewlis is a great actor, but for me he doesn't transport what I see in Lupin. The fact that film-Lupin simply looks awful while the Lupin in my head is quite attractive (and WITHOUT facial hair!!!!) only adds to that. Well, maybe we shouldn't be too critical because there isn't much to see of this character in the movies. Honestly, why did they cast a Lupin when they only show about 20 seconds of him?

I think Richard E. Grant would have done nicely in the role. Of course, I would have also liked to see Julian Sands cast as something along the way as well. So many nice-looking men, so few roles to fill... Sad

I have been wonderingif they should have swapped characters. Gary Oldman as Lupin and David Thewlis as Sirius Black. But of course Gary Oldman is brilliant as Sirius Black, so he might not have wanted it this way.

What do you think? Who is going to play the Muggle Prime Minister??? Hugh Grant? Or maybe someone less pretty.

I just finished watching Quigley Down Under (thank God for cable!). Definitely needed the pick me up! He looks so handsome in it...even if the whole movie - while having some interesting moments - did seem to drag out quite a bit in parts (isn't "fast Forward" great!)

Interestingly enough, though, I definitely find him most attractive as he looks now...Have set my DVR to record Judas Kiss in HBO so I can finally see more of the movie than the scenes that are on YouTube. HBO definitely plays a lot of his movies - may be because he already has done two films for them that have been award winners...

I swear, the more I see him, the worse the need to see more of him gets. Will be at my in-laws in Dec. when Sweeney Todd comes out but hubby knows (the poor, patient soul!) that is a "must go to movie" night no matter what...Also plan to go to Sonoma to the places he filmed Bottle Shock (usually just do Napa Valley but not this time!).

Keep hoping he will come to DC now that we have a new Shakespeare Theatre venue that is state of the art and do a play...I know, hope springs eternal, huh! Laughing

I'm new, but I figured my first post should be to explain what it was that got me onto this forum.

I first saw Alan Rickman in Dogma in 2001, I was at a friend's birthday party and they had a movie channel on. Everyone was falling asleep (yes, it was a sleepover - I was only 14) but I was wide awake and completely engrossed in the film. I instantly loved the character of The Metatron, and realised that the actor was quite familiar. The next day at school I looked him up online and realised that he had been in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, which I loved as a kid, as well as Die Hard. Later that year I saw Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone, which I realised that he was in. From then on I had a quiet obsession.

About 4 years ago I started actually buying his films - before then I relied on the internet and stuff that came on TV.

My first Alan purchase was Dogma, then HP, S&S, Robin Hood, Love Actually, Truly Madly Deeply, Perfume, and finally Mesmer. I am currently seeking Close My Eyes, as a friend recommended it to me.

I only came out of the closet to my friends about my fascination for all things Alan very recently - I found it weird for quite some time that I found a man so much older than me attractive. They have been very accepting... well... sort of...
