Have a good vacation Eustacia. You've earned it. I am going to be away for a week starting tomorrow afternoon. We're going to the lake where we go every year at this time. I will let you all know if I get tickets for the Bottle Shock event first. _________________

I have to say, and i'm sorry, but crocs are my least favorite footwear! (maybe along with Birckenstocks) lots of nurses wear them, it started out with just surgical crews, then it spread to other floors...
they make your feet look gigantic and so clunky!
and they're plastic!
I prefer Jimmy Choos....
yea, right!
Like I'd spend $600 on a pair of shoes!!!
(I would actually if I could.) _________________ ~~~Nora~~~

If I need a pair of shoes that I can spend all day in and walk and work I have returned to buy the sort of lace-ups my mother bought me 40 years ago. If I want to be swept of my feet I am wearing different shoes, though.
I am lucky my addictions are not shoes. That would be devestating. My addictions are books, DVDs, CDs, information...
My favourite poison is chocolate, but I have been good recently and maybe I can quit that. _________________ Alan Rickman('s) Acting touches nerves you have absolutely no control over. |

This thread is now making me think about Alan's feet Definitely not a croc man to be sure but I wonder if he wears slippers around the house. Maybe just socks... or bare feet in the summer?
See, this is what happens when you haven't slept all night. You just get incredibly odd thoughts. _________________

I've thought about Alan's footwear from time to time, !!
My guess to slippers would be some nice leather mocassins from L.L. Bean. I love their slippers!! I also love their casual shoes... We won't go there, lol! _________________ I want to swim in both directions at once. Desire success, court failure. ~ Alan Rickman |

He always has very stylish shoes, and he looks after himself, but I'm guessing he's a barefoot man around the house!!
He seems the type!! _________________ Alan Rickman...*sigh*... enough said.

Now I have a picture in my head of Alan in shorts, wearing bright pink crocs full of those little flowers and butterflies you can attach to them
And yes, he still is hot! |

I'm in a really great mood. The weather is fantastic - very hot and sunny - this weekend. Last night after work Nick and I went to my friend's BBQ and got truly wasted. We ended up sleeping in his living room and this morning all of those that stayed over went to a little french eatery (sp?) and ordered take out sandwiches, etc and went to a park in Islington and had a picnic. It was really relaxing - I feel it was a weekend well spent. And now my flatmates and I are off to see The Dark Knight, finally!! _________________ :.*My Flavour Of Choice? Alan. well, quite frankly I'm not sure how I am. On thursday I went to an interview in Glasgow. Liverpool to glasgow and back in 11 hours isn't fun. Then, yesterday I went to Edinburgh (a 6hr train journey on very packed trains) stayed over in a hotel, and have just got back 30 mins ago. The trains were even worse today.
This is because there are no jobs for me in liverpool. I don't usually get travel sickness, but the tiredness seems to bring it on and I now seem to be coming down with a cold. The interview in edinburgh seemed to go better than glasgow, but who knows? And all this is making the fact that I will be moving away from my boyfriend more of a reality. Having lived together for over 3 years it will be very difficult indeed.
However, as bad as the trains were, I got to have my own mini-adventures in two fantastic cities. Edinburgh is very beautiful by the way, I've never been there before and the place just seemed completely magical to me. I'm now going to go lie down because the world is currently still moving! |

Hopefully by now you feel better, Skittle.
I get motion sickness all the time. Don't know about on trains, I've never really been on one. (ok, subway...)
train travel isn't much of an option here, there is a passenger train through the US, in only has certain routes.(except in cities with their own systems, and the Amtrak has more lines on the East Coast, which I am hundreds and hundreds of mile away from)
The Amtrak line actually goes past my house, about 2 blocks away, one of the north-south lines, from Chicago to New Orleans. The famous "City of New Orleans" train runs past here 2 times each day. to go east or west, you have to go north, then transfer.
pretty well only college students take it back and forth to Chicago or Southern Illinois University, or people on vacation to Chicago.
Most people just drive.
Sorry you will have to move away from your boyfriend. He can't go too?
and Edinburgh sounds wonderful! _________________ ~~~Nora~~~

He has another year of university left and a job which he loves. I should be back in a year though as I'll need to go to uni again for one more year to get fully qualified (archiving).
I'm surprised there aren't more trains in america really. One would think in such a big place that they'd be necessary! I use trains all the time since I can't drive, but I think something really should be done about the trains in Britain. I heard that the Germans who make trains that we use in Britain have to have a separate track which has been half-destroyed to check that they will work on our tracks. scary stuff. Feeling better now, just need a good night's sleep |

You can't drive?
I think maybe we don't have trains because:
A. everyone drives, from the time you're 16. you live to get that driver's license, and most people sacrifice to buy a car of some sort.
B. our country is so huge, that it would take forever to go from one coast to another (2 days or more) you can fly just as cheap, and alot faster.
I think our rail system died out in the 40's and 50's because of air travel becoming more common, and also everyone owning cars, and our interstate system.
My mom used to talk about taking the train all the time, from her parents home in Arkansas to St. Louis, Union Station, which is now like a mall/visitors center, but is historically preserved. I love to go there and imagine what it was like in the 40's!
what do the rest of you think?? Steph?Dee? why don't we have a better public transportation system in the US? _________________ ~~~Nora~~~
